Fundamental beliefs

  • Most of us are not job search professionals. Sales people come the closest. A job search is a Sales activity. If you are not is sales, learn the basics.
  • Job Boards are not the best way to look for a job. One of the major job boards indicates that roughly 50% of applications on job postings never receive a response of any kind. You can imagine that the 50% that do get responses, the majority are rejections.
  • Human Resources is not your side in your job search. Their job is to protect the company.
  • Networking is crucial.
  • Find a way to meet the person who would be your boss or boss’ boss.

 

Acknowledgement – A job search is intimidating If you are recently unemployed, you day looks a lot differently now. Perhaps you are currently employed and are at a loss for where to begin looking for your next position.

  • How I fill my day just drastically changed.
  • Don’t have to get up at a certain time.
  • Don’t have to be at work at a certain time.
  • No meetings.
  • No task list.
  • No appointments.
  • No duties.
  • NO STRUCTURE.
  • Where do I start?.
  • Write a resume?
  • Search the job boards?
  • Buy the local newspaper and look at the want ads?
  • Stay in my pajamas.

 

Attitude – The mindset necessary to tackle the challenge If you are in a job you aren’t satisfied with or unemployed. This is your opportunity to chart your own course.

    • Denial
    • Anger
    • Bargaining
    • Depression

Perform a Personal and Professional Appraisal. A job search is a lot of work. The most effective search follows a great deal of introspection. Appraise you assets! We have a tendency to overlook many of them.
